Last Sunday's Bike Ride
Fall's here, and with it, the lessening of wonderful, but eventually oppressive, Florida heat. Last Sunday, we did our usual local loop on the bikes. Pics here at Flickr. Here are a few faves; you can click on them to go to the image on Flickr, then see it in larger sizes (All Sizes icon over the pic):
Mack on the boardwalk over the swamp:

Bald eagle excerpt (just the pixels, ma'am):

What Are You Doing?
I've recently started using Twitter, and I like it. Posts of 160 characters or less answering the question, "What are you doing?" go to other subscribers who are "following" you. It also auto-updates my Facebook status. You can have the posts ("tweets") sent to your cell phone as an SMS message, but that costs money under most plans. If your phone supports applications, there might be a Twitter-serving application for it; example: Twitterific on the iPhone (and the Mac, as well).
So, if you're following me on Twitter or see my Facebook updates, then these are old news. But, to answer "What have y'all been up to?", we went to an old friend of mine's wedding last night, got up this morning and took the dog to the dog park, then drove around DeBary checking out where there's still flooding three weeks after Tropical Storm Fay. After we got home, I took some pics of the cats in the back yard, then spent a couple of hours messing around with the pictures and uploading them to our Flickr site.
There's not that many photos overall, even though I put some of them into sets, so maybe the best way to proceed is to start here and work backwards through the photostream. Some representative samples:
Me, curiously earnest in performance of the very serious task of checking my gas gauge.

Lake at Paradise Cove Watersports, where the wedding took place.

Jim and Amy cut the cake.

Mack and Ursa, after the dog park.

Hoses, still pumping flood waters from Tropical Storm Fay away.

Carrot, on the go, on the fence.

A Visit from Mr. Glass
My brother Ray, aka Bubba, aka Fiberglass, called today and invited me to lunch. He drives a semi, had dropped a load in Orlando, was headed to Jax to pick up another load, and had a little while.
It was great to see him, which I don't get to do often enough.
As you might expect, the price of fuel is kicking independent truckers' butts.

Kenneth M. Wilson Company Women's Quilt
When my dad died, my mom and brother ran his business, a sewing factory. After a year or so, my mom had had enough and got out. When she left, some of the women who worked there made her this quilt.

They all used the same pattern, but each one brought her own scraps and added her own name. Here are a couple of examples.

I'm in the process of getting the quilt to the Hickman County (Tennessee) Historical Society. It's just been sitting in a cedar chest forever. But I wanted a copy of the images, and I wanted to share them all. The entire set of photos is here.
Cold hard life intrusion among the sweetness: Anyone got any ideas on how to value the gift for tax purposes?

Mason, My Great Nephew
Mason, the son of my nephew Mike and his wife Nicole (wedding pictures from earlier this summer here), was born at 1:25 a.m. (CST? CDT? -- answer unclear) this morning. Nine pounds, one ounce, 21.5 21.75 inches.
Mike texted me the photo below:

Congrats to Mike and Nicole, and relief to them, the grandparents, uncles, etc. who've been waiting. (I thought he was going to be a Halloween baby, but he had other ideas.)
